If you’d like to help make the Disney Magnet School a better place, our PTA accept donations via paypal. All monies received go directly to PTA programs and events. Last year we provided free field trips to every child in the school, books for every classroom, and produced a monthly Night Out movie event that helped foster the school community.

Wednesday, April 18 is report card pick up day. Parents should come to school to get their student’s report card and meet with the teacher. Many teachers have set up signups online. Hours are from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm and 2:45 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. The building will be closed from 2:00 – 2:45 p.m. for staff lunch.
Many activities will also be going on during the day, including the Book Fair (previously reported), the LSC Elections, a school survey, and Fundraiser Pickup. Here’s a rundown with the details about those activities.
FUNDRAISER PICKUP: For anyone who ordered during the Yankee Candle Fundraiser, your order will be available for pickup during Report Card Pickup. Go to the CAC dining room (where the BookFair is) and there will be a table with your order. Please don’t forget to pick up your order.
My Parent, My Voice Survey – Parents will have an opportunity to complete a paper or on-line survey at school during report card pick up. There will be a staffed computer lab on each floor, so you can easily complete the on-line survey. If you prefer, you can pick up a paper copy in the office to complete. The survey deadline is Friday, May 11.
LSC Elections in the CAC. While you are here for report card pick up, please make your way to the CAC to vote for parent representatives to your Local School Council. All Disney parents are entitled to vote. Be prepared to show 2 forms of ID, one of which must establish that your child attends Walt Disney School. A report card can be used for this. There will be an LSC meeting Friday, April 20, at 7:30 a.m., to certify the election results.
In addition, local community members without children in the school are also eligible to vote for LSC members. Voting for those people will also be in the CAC. Hours are 6 am-7pm.
There will be a reduced Disney Wear sale going on during report card pickup. Sales benefit the school.
On Saturday, April 14th, from 10AM-12:00PM, older Disney students will meet at the Ratner Athletic Center (5530 S Ellis Ave) at the University of Chicago for the Walt Disney/University of Chicago mentorship meeting.
During this mentorship session (from 10:15AM-12:00PM), we will have a parent meeting (sponsored by the Parent Teacher Association-PTA) in the Berwanger room, which is the conference room in the Ratner Facility.
Parents are welcome to attend so we can get your ideas on how to make Disney a better school for your children. You do not have to have a mentorship student to participate in the meeting.
Refreshments will be served during the meeting.
Please fill out this form to confirm your participation.
Tomorrow, Friday April 13, there will be no school citywide as part of the School Improvement Day Program.
What are you going to do with your day off? Catch a movie? Read a book? Go to the zoo? Play outside? All of the above? Please let us know!
And in case you are looking for something to do, here are three museums that are free all year round in Chicago, and might be worth checking out.
National Museum of Mexican Art
1852 W. 19th Street Chicago, IL 60608
Their permanent exhibit about Mexican heritage and art is fascinating.
Chicago Cultural Center
111 N. State Street, Lower Level, Chicago, IL
Right now they have a really interesting Keith Haring exhibit, based on a residency he did in Chicago with CPS Students in 1989.
National Veterans Art Museum
4041 N. Milwaukee Avenue 2nd floor Chicago, IL 60641
Inspired by Tim O’Brien’s book The Things They Carried, this exhibit serves as a visual companion that illustrates the narrative with fine art and photography from veterans that lived the stories in the novel. Much like the book, the exhibit explores the concept of storytelling and questions how one might share the story of the Vietnam experience.
The Spring Book Fair starts today and runs through April 20. Over the next days, your student will be scheduled to come to the book fair with his or her class. A revised schedule is below.
Please make sure to send money with your children if they plan on buying books at the fair.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Prices listed on the flyers don’t include sales tax. Please send enough money to cover sales tax. That is approximately 10% in Chicago (It’s actually 10.25%)
So if you think your kid is going to spend $20 on books, you need to send them in with $22.10 (and they should get .05 cents back in change!)
